Plymouth hit Newport for six to clinch promotion
Plymouth Argyle secured an emphatic 6-1 victory over Newport County at Home Park to clinch automatic promotion.
On-loan Cardiff City winger Matty Kennedy got Argyle off the mark with a looping 40th-minute header, and Jake Jervis waltzed in Argyle's second two minutes later as Derek Adams' side got into their stride.
Playmaker Graham Carey increased the hosts' lead in the second half, beating County goalkeeper Joe Day at his near post from close range.
Striker Ryan Taylor made it 4-0 with an audacious back heel in the 58th minute, and Kennedy curled in his second and Plymouth's fifth from outside of the penalty area.
Plymouth swept forward again and Jervis netted his second goal with a measured effort after 73 minutes.
At the other end, Luke McCormick made three point-blank second-half saves to somehow keep County at bay until substitute Aaron Williams scored in stoppage time.
