Mark Roberts completes Cambridge comeback against Newport
Mark Roberts' last-gasp winner secured Cambridge a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory against bottom side Newport.
The U's somehow found themselves two goals behind after an hour despite dominating the game, having been denied three times by goal-line clearances in the first period.
The hosts fell behind two minutes before the interval when Ryan Bird received Dan Butler's cross before burying the ball beyond Will Norris.
Then moments after Joe Day had produced a superb save to keep out Piero Mingoia's header, former Cambridge forward Bird volleyed home David Pipe's cross to make it 2-0 after 57 minutes.
Mingoia was the inspiration behind Cambridge's comeback, crossing for Barry Corr to head home six minutes later before providing similar service 18 minutes from the end for captain Leon Legge to equalise.
In the second minute of injury time Mitch Rose was sent off for fouling Luke Berry as he was about to tap the ball home from close range
Day saved George Maris' penalty, only for Roberts to follow up to convert the rebound and secure a remarkable victory.
